Empordà, excursion
The Cap Roig Botanical Garden is one of Costa Brava´s gems. As every beautiful construction that has survived the past of the time, these Botanical Gardens were born from the passion of beauty of a retired Russian soldier called Nicolai Woevodsly and his British aristocrat wife, Dorothy Webster. They both discovered Cap Roig and they found in this area of Costa Brava, in el Baix Empordà, a place to settle down. The Russian soldier loved drawing and architecture while her English wife was passionate about design, architecture and gardening. Step by step, they built their dream and they lifted a castle and the gardens, preserving the forest and the land around. When they passed away, they offered the place to the community with the condition of preserving and keeping the castle and the gardens.
This singular place in Calella de Palafrugell, combines more than 800 botanical species from all over the world that is why the Cap Roig Botanical Garden is considered one the most beautiful gardens in the whole Mediterranean. These gardens also have some picnic areas from where you can admire the beautiful coast and caves from Calella, as well as terraces and sculptures from national and international artists.
From Mas Pastora, in Llafranc, we can guide you on how to get there either by foot doing the Camí de Ronda or by car.
